Alpha Sigma Phi Philippines (ΑΣΦ, commonly abbreviated to Alphans and/or Alpha Sig) is a co-ed service fraternity with 34 active undergraduate chapters, colonies, and interest groups.[1] Founded at Central Mindanao University in 1959.
In July 24, 1980, Alpha Sigma Phi Philippines was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-profit organization.[2]
In August of 1984, the International Council of Alpha Sigma Phi was formed between the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity of the USA and the Alpha Sigma Phi of the Philippines.[3]
The fraternity practices many traditions very similar to its US counterpart.[4] Their Latin motto is, Causa Latet Vis Est Notissima ("The cause is hidden, the results well-known.").[5] The fraternity's official symbol is the phoenix, as the phoenix rises from the ashes of its old body, signifying the refounding of the fraternity in the early 1900s.
